Watching through bare trees as day fights the night
On my routine hike to your house through the woods
The wind pulling at my hair as I pull up my hood

Each step bringing the crunch of dead leaves
Woodland animals glance at the sound and flee
And I spot the garden wall to hop to get in your backyard
Your face shooting up from the fire pit as I hit the ground hard

And I see your breaths of air
Gain form and just hang there
Watching stars begin to light the sky
Clouds forming with soft sighs
