about

A single from the album Songs To Get You Through The Night

lyrics

It’s half past six and I’m losing light
Watching through bare trees as day fights the night
On my routine hike to your house through the woods
The wind pulling at my hair as I pull up my hood

Each step bringing the crunch of dead leaves
Woodland animals glance at the sound and flee
And I spot the garden wall to hop to get in your backyard
Your face shooting up from the fire pit as I hit the ground hard

And I see your breaths of air
Gain form and just hang there
Watching stars begin to light the sky
Clouds forming with soft sighs
Dotting these autumn nights we share

Leaves change and their colors turn warm
The palette matching flannels we wear with the holes that were torn
Inside corn mazes catching cloth as you catch up
The evening sun as golden as the cider inside our cups

Now we’re sitting and discussing plans
As the flames in front of us dance
And I’ll pick you up tomorrow after class
And we’ll go check out the local pumpkin patch

Here I’ll show you the right way to wear a scarf
I think we’ve found the perfect ones to carve
And I feel your hand in my hand intertwine
As I pick off of you the needles of pine

And I see your waves of dark hair
Capture the setting sun’s colors from the air
Watching stars begin to light the sky
I hope I never have to say goodbye
To these autumn nights that we share

Leaves change and their colors turn warm
The palette matching flannels we wear with the holes that were torn
Inside corn mazes catching cloth as you catch up
The evening sun as golden as the cider inside our cups

Leaves change and their colors turn warm
The palette matching flannels we wear with the holes that were torn
Inside corn mazes catching cloth as you catch up
The evening sun as golden as the cider inside our cups
